I love to listed to classic rock music - and quite often hear a phrase that brings back memories and/or "strikes a chord". ;D So I thought I'd start posting one a week. Do you have a favorite quote? "You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then the one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun" Pink Floyd, Time, Dark Side of the Moon

Excellent choice, JT. I've always found that passage a rather accurate description of life.
Since I'm someone that enjoys a good set of lyrics, I've got some to offer myself. You may have thought you were going old school, but I'm really going to go old school and provide some from a 1929 song:
Keep your sunny side up, up Hide the side that gets blue If you have 9 sons in a row Why baseball teams make money you know
Keep your funny side up, up Let your laughter come through, do Stand up on your legs Be like two fried eggs Keep your sunny side up
Sunny Side Up, written by Brown, DeSylva and Henderson

Whenever I get to feel this way Try to find new words to say I think about the bad old days We used to know Nights of winter turn me cold Fears of dying, getting old We ran the race and the race was won By running slowly Could be soon we'll cease to sound Slowly upstairs, faster down Then to revisit stony grounds We used to know Remembering mornings, shillings spent Made no sense to leave the bed The bad old days they came and went Giving way to fruitful years Saving up the birds in hand While in the bush the others land Take what we can before the man Says it's time to go Each to his own way I'll go mine Best of luck in what you find But for your own sake remember times We used to know ...........Ian Anderson check this out on JT's second album, Stand Up. it's a super power chord trip with one of Martin Barre's best solos (maybe better than Aqualung). then listen to the Eagles Hotel California. they crafted it after hearing this song, and used a similar chord progression. and BTW...it brought a memory of long ago, when we bought actual albums. on the outside of one of my Cream albums there was something printed, to the effect of..."This record was meant to be played LOUD!!" so turn it up so the internal organs vibrate a little. If I could only listen to one album for the rest of my life this would be it. Followed closely by "Wish You Were Here" also by Pink Floyd. "In addition to its commercial success, The Dark Side of the Moon is one of Pink Floyd's most popular albums among fans and critics, and is frequently ranked as one of the greatest rock albums of all-time." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Side_of_the_Moon

When I first started collecting albums in 1981 I also bought a pair of Bose 901 surround sound speakers ($2500 back then) and put them in my living room. ;D ;D Just a little vibration for sure.

Here is my favorite lines from the song JT quoted... Time by Pink Floyd And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death And here is one more to throw into the pot... I wish that I could be a slave It really wouldn’t matter what kind I’d sing a song for fallen angels And try to be free in my mind Then when no one was looking I’d drop my harness and plow I’d find my old contemporaries And wipe the shame from their brow Written by Jeff Black, but best sung by Sam Bush (Bluegrass mandolin player). Live from Telluride Bluegrass Festival... Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and Jerry Douglas, quite a cast. And one more for the road... Some come to laugh their past away Some come to make it just one more day Franklin's Tower by The Grateful Dead (Robert Hunter more specifically ) Live and Uncut I'll take the first line as a way of life... Each day is a new one, embrace it and don't let the past hold you back. Peace, SkinniePost

JT There are several programs I've found available on the internet that play music from the 20s and 30s or earlier. I love music from that era. I also enjoy Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, early Metallica. I have a wide collection TMan

It was the second US release, followed by Benefit. the 4th US release was Aqualung, and thats when Tull really got mainstream notice. next out was Living In The Past, a 2-platter set that had a ton of stuff from previous UK releases that didnt fit on the US versions. this handful of first albums represents (to me) Tull/Andersons' best work. i'm with TMan, and all over the place. Sinatra can be hypnotic, as can Herbie Hancock. Floyd RULES!to add to this, one of the local NYC FM stations used to do a weekly feature...Desert Island Discs...simply, if you were to be shipwrecked, and could have one record, what would it be? i've always been torn between the Tull Stand Up album, and Santana's Abraxas. i'll put forth for your approval that the first 3 cuts on Abraxas should be played as a unit...Singing Winds, Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va. "My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock"
A tune for the ages ... By R&R's "MOTOR CITY ROCKER" BOB SEGER

The music I listen to doesn't have any lyrics that are life lessons ;D The closest thing I can think of is: "See you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart; never really had luck, couldn't ever figure out How to love (how to love) Mmmmm, see you had a lot of moments that didn't last forever; now you in this corner try'n to put it together How to love (how to love)
